GS Kandern (CSK)
Christian - Bilingual - Globally Minded
This new school in Kandern, like the Freie Evangelische Schule (FES) in Lörrach and its partner school, the Black Forest Academy (BFA), is a Christian school. It is legally overseen by the school board of the FES.
It offers an all-day school with lunch and afternoon program. Children will attend school from 8:55 to 15:45. Lesson plans are based on the State of Baden-Württemberg educational elementary school requirements, and follow a joint curriculum designed by FES Lörrach and BFA to be taught in English and German.
As Christians we believe in a God who loves us unconditionally regardless of performance, race, nationality, age and gender. Each child should experience this acceptance and develop a healthy sense of self worth.
Students will be studying in a bilingual and bicultural environment. Languages will be taught by a systematic development of writing and reading skills and by immersion method. Experienced mother tongue teachers will teach English and German not just as a subject, but use the two languages to teach other subject matters as well. Lessons will incorporate themes from German, and English speaking cultures.
We want to expose our children to a wide range of opportunities to develop a broadened worldview. Our aim is to give them an awareness of beauty and diversity, awaken the joy of discovery, and give them a desire to participate in their world. Through exposure to the multicultural environment in the classroom, with both German and English speaking children and teachers, we facilitate an openness to the unique qualities of the other culture and a natural interaction with people of different nationalities.
To offer a balanced daily teaching schedule, our program includes:
- daily devotions and prayer time
- daily reading time with regular library visits
- Creative Arts Projects can be chosen by students (singing, making music, drama, crafts etc.)
- „play time“ providing relaxation to enhance positive social behavior
- learning different skills in physical education
FES is the sponsoring school overseer. It has a current attendence of 1763 students in its state recognized schools in Lörrach, Schopfheim, Kandern and Waldshut.
Since BFA (sponsored by Janz Team) was established 60 years ago, it has stood continuously for high quality education at an international level. It follows a North American curriculum and offers a boarding program. Most teachers are from North America and their instructional language is English.
